Professional Black Matchmaker

The short answer

Professional Black matchmaker services introduce Black singles, often professionals, from a private, vetted pool. Most don't publish prices, so ask about vetting, the pool in your city and refunds before you pay.

What does a professional Black matchmaker do?

Any professional matchmaker interviews you, searches, then sends introductions you say yes or no to. These services differ in the pool. They build their member lists around Black singles, so you don’t have to do the filtering yourself.

Some go further. The Broom List says its members and clients are “28 or older, highly educated, earn at least six figures” The Broom List · checked Oct 15, 2026. CarpeDM says it was “designed with the professional Black woman in mind” CarpeDM FAQ · checked Oct 15, 2026.

If you’re not sure you want a matchmaker at all, matchmaker vs dating coach lays out the difference in one table.

How do Black matchmaking services vet members?

Vetting is where these services differ most. Each one describes it on its own site:

Service What it says about vetting Background check?
The Broom List Vetting “can include a two-hour interview, video verification, a home visit, and a reference call” Terms say it does not run criminal background screenings
CarpeDM Identity and relevant criminal history checked through a background check partner Yes, for all members, per its FAQ
The Love Crush Agency Investment page lists screening, “Background checks” and employment verification when appropriate Listed
Bachelors Inc. Application reviewed, then an invitation if you’re selected Not described
LUMA Matchmakers “meet each candidate” Not described

A home visit and a reference call are real effort. So is a background check. They’re different checks, so ask which one you’re getting.

How big is the member pool in your city?

A great matchmaker with three members in your city is still three members.

The Broom List is honest about this. It says its matches are concentrated in six metros and works with clients elsewhere who are open to someone from one of them The Broom List · checked Oct 15, 2026. CarpeDM checks your location before you join CarpeDM FAQ · checked Oct 15, 2026. That’s a good sign. A service that takes your money without asking where you live is a worry.

Ask: “How many active members in my age range live within an hour of me?” A number is a fair answer. “Plenty” is not.

How much does a Black matchmaker cost?

Most of them won’t say in public. Three publish some numbers:

  • The Broom List: a $500 intensive session, credited in full toward membership if you join private matchmaking within 90 days. Private matchmaking is “priced accordingly,” with no number The Broom List · checked Oct 15, 2026.
  • The Love Crush Agency: coaching packages start at $599, and 30-minute coaching sessions are $79. Matchmaking prices aren’t listed Love Crush · checked Oct 15, 2026.
  • LUMA: proactive matchmaking from $20,000 to $250,000 or more, firm-wide LUMA · checked Oct 15, 2026.

The professional matchmaker cost guide puts these next to matchmaker prices in general.

What do the contracts say about refunds?

Three of the six put something in writing that you can read before you call:

  • Bachelors Inc.: “All fees are non-refundable unless otherwise stated in your signed agreement” Bachelors Inc. terms · checked Oct 15, 2026.
  • The Broom List’s terms say it can’t guarantee “any particular number of matches,” and that misrepresentation can end service without a refund The Broom List terms · checked Oct 15, 2026.
  • CarpeDM says that if matches don’t meet your criteria, it will keep going “at no additional cost” CarpeDM FAQ · checked Oct 15, 2026. That keeps the search going but returns no money.

None of this is unusual for the industry. Better to know it before you pay. Bring the matchmaker contract checklist to your first call.

What should you ask a matchmaker for Black professionals?

Questions to ask before you pay

CarpeDM’s homepage says “86% success rate” CarpeDM · checked Oct 15, 2026 and LUMA’s Black singles page says 85% LUMA · checked Oct 15, 2026. Neither page says how it’s counted, so treat both as marketing.

Is a matchmaker the right move for you?

It can be, if you want someone else to do the filtering and you have the budget. It’s not the only route. Read what free matchmaking services really offer, and compare a coach, too. If you’re on the fence, read is a matchmaker worth it before you book a consult.

If you want help sorting it out, book a free consultation. Either way, ask the questions above first.

Questions people ask

Are there matchmakers just for Black professionals?

Yes. The Broom List, CarpeDM, Bachelors Inc., The Love Crush Agency and The HelpMeet Club all describe Black matchmaking, Black singles or Black professionals as their focus on their own sites.

How much does a Black matchmaker cost?

Most of the services we checked don't publish a matchmaking price. You'll usually hear it on a consultation call. Ask for the total in writing before you decide.

Do Black matchmaking services run background checks?

Some do and some don't. CarpeDM says it checks every member. The Broom List's terms say it does not run criminal background screenings. Ask each one directly.

Can I join for free?

Some services let you join a database or pool for free, and paying clients get matched with that pool. The Broom List calls its database complimentary, by approval.

Is a success rate on a matchmaker's site reliable?

Treat it as marketing until they tell you how they count it. Ask: success means what, out of how many clients, over what time?

Can I get a refund if it doesn't work?

Only if your contract says so or your state law gives you a cancellation window. Read the refund clause before you pay.

What if there aren't many members in my city?

Ask before you pay. Some services focus on a few big metros and ask if you're open to someone from one of those cities.
