What does a dating coach do?
A dating coach works on how you date. Who you date is still on you.
Most coaches mix some of these:
- Get clear on what you want. What you’re looking for, and what you keep settling for.
- Fix your profile. Photos, bio, prompts. A Little Nudge, for example, lists photo selection, profile creation and message writing as services A Little Nudge · checked Oct 15, 2026.
- Prep for dates and talk them through after. What went well, what felt off.
- Spot the pattern. The thing you keep doing that you can’t see from inside it.
- Homework and check-ins. Logan Ury’s team meets weekly in month one, then every two weeks Logan Ury · checked Oct 15, 2026.

|---|---|
| Help you set one clear dating goal. | Promise you a relationship by a date. |
| Review your profile, photos and messages. | Treat depression, anxiety or trauma. That’s a therapist’s job. |
| Give you homework and check you did it. | Introduce you to people, in most cases. That’s a matchmaker. |
| Talk through your dates after they happen. | Make your choices for you. |
| Point out patterns you can’t see. | Hand you scripts to trick people. If they do, leave. |
Even good coaches won’t promise results. Logan Ury’s FAQ says she “can’t guarantee a specific timeline” Logan Ury · checked Oct 15, 2026. That’s an honest answer, and it’s the one you want to hear.
Is a dating coach licensed or certified?
Usually not, and they don’t have to be. Relationship expert Susan Winter told AARP that dating coaches “aren’t required to have any specific training or qualifications” AARP · checked Oct 15, 2026.
So you’ll see three kinds of people:
- Licensed therapists who also coach. Kelsey Wonderlin calls herself “a licensed therapist and dating coach for women” Kelsey Wonderlin · checked Oct 15, 2026. Logan Ury says each coach on her team is a licensed therapist or a credentialed coach.
- Coaches with a coaching credential. The first ICF level, the ACC, needs 60 hours of coach training, 100 hours of coaching (75 paid), 10 hours of mentor coaching and an exam ICF ACC · checked Oct 15, 2026.
- Coaches with life experience and no credential. Some are great and some aren’t, so you have to check.
A “certified” badge can come from any course. Ask which program, how many hours, and whether you can look it up.
How is a dating coach different from a therapist or a matchmaker?

| Pick it when | You keep hitting the same wall. | Dating brings up pain you can’t shake. | You want someone else to do the search. |
