Key takeaways

  • Three Day Rule charged New York clients $5,000 for three months or $8,000 for six, as reported by CNBC in February 2019. Ask for today's price.
  • Agape Match's founder said her prices range from $20,000 to $100,000 (Freakonomics, Sept 2025).
  • Janis Spindel lists a men's tier starting at $75,000 for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut (its own page, checked Oct 15, 2026).
  • The lowest public price I found was coaching, not matchmaking: a $149 course, with 1-on-1 coaching at $4,985 (Dating By Blaine).
  • New York's GBL § 394-c lets you cancel a social referral contract within 3 business days, with your money back within 10 business days (NY Senate).
  • At least 3 NYC firms let you join their database for free: Agape Match, Project Soulmate and Three Day Rule (Agape Match).

Who are the professional matchmakers in NYC?

New York has more matchmakers than anywhere I looked, and almost none of them post a price. On October 15, 2026, I pulled up each firm below on its own website. Every price in the table was either published by the company or reported by a news outlet I link to. If you live somewhere else, start at matchmakers and dating coaches by city.

A few things the table can’t hold:

  • Three Day Rule says it covers all the boroughs. If you only want to be someone’s match, it has a free database.
  • Agape Match says it is based in New York. Women can join its database for free.
  • Project Soulmate has a Manhattan office on Madison Avenue and a free database too.
  • Janis Spindel posts real prices, but they are for men. The page lists no fee for women.
  • Dating By Blaine coaches men. I list him because his NYC page shows real prices, and that helps you see what coaching costs here.

In a free database, you’re the person they introduce to a paying client. That can be a fine deal, as long as you know which side of the table you’re on. I explain the difference in matchmaking services near me.

What does a matchmaker cost in New York City?

NYC prices with a public source, checked Oct 15, 2026 Each step on the scale is 10 times the last, so small and large prices both fit.

What do New Yorkers say about matchmakers?

Treat this part as anecdote. In June 2025, La Voce di New York ran a story on matchmaking in Manhattan, citing the New York Post. La Voce di New York, June 24, 2025 · checked Oct 15, 2026

What the article reports:

  • Matchmakers there say demand is up.
  • Some New Yorkers are tired of apps and want people who have been checked first.
  • Services now go past introductions, to events, styling, photos and coaching.
  • One Manhattan matchmaker said her clients pay up to $150,000.

Keep in mind who’s talking. The people quoted run matchmaking businesses, so of course they say business is booming. Still, the app part rings true for me. When I was on the apps, matches were never my problem. Attention was.

Dating coach New York City: when is a coach enough?

A coach makes sense when the problem is how you date. A matchmaker makes sense when the problem is who you meet, and you have more money than time.

Most NYC coaches I checked don’t post prices either. NYC Wingwoman runs eight weeks of remote coaching with a team, and it starts with a free call. Its price isn’t public.

What does New York law say about matchmaker contracts?

New York has a law for “social referral services.” It’s General Business Law § 394-c. I read it on the New York State Senate site on October 15, 2026. NY GBL § 394-c · checked Oct 15, 2026

Under § 394-c:

  • You can cancel within three business days after you get a written copy of the contract, with no cancellation fee.
  • After you cancel, the seller has ten business days to give your money back.
  • Send your notice by certified or registered mail, or by email to the address in the contract.
  • A contract over $25 must promise a set number of referrals per month.
  • If they miss your referrals two or more months in a row, you can cancel and get a refund. They may keep 15% of the price or a pro rata share, whichever is more.
  • You can put your membership on hold for up to a year by writing to them.
  • The seller has to give you a separate “Dating Service Consumer Bill of Rights” with the contract.
  • The contract can’t require a cash price over $1,000 or last more than two years. Some online dating plans of a year or less are exempt.

Set that $1,000 cap next to the NYC prices above. The law covers any service that matches members for a fee, but whether a given firm falls under it is a question for a lawyer. You can still ask, in writing: how does your contract follow § 394-c? A clear answer is a good sign. A fuzzy one tells you something too.

If something goes wrong, the New York Attorney General takes consumer complaints. For more, read dating service contract cancellation rights and print the matchmaker contract checklist.

What should you ask on the first call?

Get through these before anyone mentions money, then have the contract emailed to you and read it at home. If the price is only good today, the answer is no.
