Professional matchmaker San Diego prices: what do firms charge?

The bars leave out a few details. Dating by Blaine starts matchmaking at $35,000 on its San Diego page · checked Oct 15, 2026, and only men can be paying clients. San Diego women can fill in an intake form, but that only puts them up as a possible match. Simply Matchmaking’s $1,500 pays for a 90-minute interview with founder Ali Migliore to join its priority network, and a passive profile is free, per its join page · checked Oct 15, 2026.
Master Matchmakers, LUMA and Selective Search don’t put a number on their San Diego pages, so their prices come from each firm’s own national pages. Master Matchmakers’ registry spot is $450 and non-refundable, and Premium runs $3,500 to $35,000 depending on how strict your criteria are and how much coaching you get Master Matchmakers pricing · checked Oct 20, 2026. LUMA lists $20,000 to $250,000 or more LUMA cost page · checked Oct 20, 2026, and Selective Search puts a typical retained search at $50,000 to $500,000 Selective Search FAQ · checked Oct 20, 2026. Jolene Beaton says joining her candidate platform · checked Oct 15, 2026 costs nothing. She shares profiles with matchmakers whose paying clients are looking. VIDA Select and Barbara Summers didn’t post a price for a paid service on the San Diego pages I checked, so you get a number on a call.
Free is a real option here. It puts you on a list of possible matches for paying clients, and nobody runs a search for you. Free matchmaking services explains the difference, and professional matchmaker cost shows what paid clients usually get.
How does matchmaking in San Diego work?
Most San Diego firms follow the same basic order, even when they give the steps their own names. This is the usual path from the first call to the second match.
- Consultation, free or paid
- Contract and payment
- Interview and screening
- Search and first introduction
- The date
- Feedback from both of you
- Next match, or a hold
The details are where the firms differ. Here is what four of the firms in my table say on their own sites:
- Master Matchmakers lists seven steps on its San Diego page. It starts with a phone or video consultation, screens people with ID checks, background checks, photo confirmation and a personal interview, and offers a short call before the first date. Master Matchmakers, San Diego page · checked Oct 20, 2026
- LUMA’s San Diego page says its matchmakers do an average of 50 in-depth interviews per client before presenting a match. LUMA, San Diego page · checked Oct 20, 2026
- Selective Search says its screening may include a background check, a social media analysis and identity verification. Selective Search FAQ · checked Oct 20, 2026
- Tawkify says its team vets and video-screens each possible match, plans the date, and asks for your feedback after every one. Tawkify, San Diego page · checked Oct 20, 2026
Three of them also quote a success rate, and each counts it differently. LUMA claims 89%, “with most clients finding a long-term relationship within their membership.” Selective Search also says 89%, without a definition on its San Diego page. Tawkify’s “80%+” comes with a footnote saying it’s the rate for matched couples in their first 8 to 12 matches. Ask any firm that quotes you a number what counts as a success. For the whole process, read what to expect from a matchmaker.
How long does it take to find a match in San Diego?
No firm can promise you a date for that. What a firm can tell you is how long your contract runs and whether you can pause it. Selective Search says a typical contract runs 6 to 12 months Selective Search FAQ · checked Oct 20, 2026. LUMA says members get a 6-month search and can put a membership on hold for any reason LUMA cost page · checked Oct 20, 2026, and Master Matchmakers lists unlimited hold time for Premium clients Master Matchmakers pricing · checked Oct 20, 2026. California also caps the payment period for a dating service contract at 2 years (§ 1694.2, below).
Plan on six months at the least, and ask how many introductions fit inside that time. Then put the quote into this calculator and see what each one costs you.

What does a San Diego matchmaker tell local singles?
In 2019, San Diego Magazine · checked Oct 15, 2026 asked Barbara Summers, a Solana Beach matchmaker working in San Diego since 1986, for advice. Her points, in short:
- Check that your lifestyles fit. Respecting how the other person lives counts for more than money.
- Meet people where you already go, like a dance class or a dog park.
- Be willing to speak first. A simple compliment works.
- If you met online, do coffee, and ask direct questions.
She also named date spots in UTC, La Jolla, Cardiff and Flower Hill. That was 2019, so check they’re still open before you book.
Dating coach San Diego or matchmaker: which one do you need?
The difference is who does the searching. A matchmaker searches for you, and a coach helps you get better at finding and choosing people yourself. With San Diego’s posted prices, it looks like this:
| Matchmaker | Dating coach | |
|---|---|---|
| Published San Diego price | $1,500 interview to $50,000 per search | Not posted by the coaches I checked |
| What you get | Someone else finds and screens dates | Help with your profile, choices and patterns |
| Who does the work | Mostly them | Mostly you |
| Best for | A big budget and no time | You get dates but they go nowhere |
| The catch | Some firms only take men as clients | Nobody hands you dates |
No San Diego coach I checked posts a price. I coach online, and I tell you my price in the free consultation, before you pay anything. For what fair coaching costs, read dating coach cost. For the bigger choice, read matchmaker vs dating coach.
Can I work with a dating coach in San Diego online?
Yes. I coach online, so it doesn’t matter if you live in La Jolla or Chula Vista. Here’s how it works:
- You fill in the short form at the top of this page. It comes to me.

- If you want to keep working together, I tell you my price and what it includes before you pay anything. Saying no is fine.

What does California law say about a matchmaking contract?
Civil Code § 1694 and the sections that follow are California’s rules for dating service contracts. FindLaw, where I read them, shows them current as of Jan 1, 2026.
- Your cancel window runs to midnight of the third business day after signing. Send the notice in writing, and the seller has 10 days from receiving it to refund you (§ 1694.1 · checked Oct 15, 2026).
- The contract has to be written, with the cancel notice in bold near where you sign. It can’t last for your lifetime, and payments can’t run more than 2 years (§ 1694.2 · checked Oct 15, 2026).
- A contract that breaks those rules can be cancelled at any time (§ 1694.2).
- Moving more than 50 miles from the office, with no way to transfer, lets you stop paying for future services. The seller can charge up to $100, or $50 if more than half the term has passed (§ 1694.3 · checked Oct 15, 2026).
Keep the moving rule in mind if your job could take you away. It doesn’t cover online services sold regionally or nationally, though (§ 1694.3). Dating service contract cancellation rights has the details. Before you sign, go through the matchmaker contract checklist.
What should you ask a San Diego matchmaker before you sign?
Keep this open on your phone during the sales call. A provider worth hiring can answer all nine without hedging.
